2008: A great year for our little garden!

November 25th, 2008

We want to thank all of you for your interest in the Community Garden this year. We had the highest number of families participating in many years. This shows the enthusiasm of you who have been members in the past and have shared that with others.

If you are a numbers person like I am, here are some stats for this year. There were 42 families/individuals who signed up, 20 for the summer season only, 7 for the fall only, and 15 for summer and fall. The number that got all of their time done was 9 for the summer, 5 for the winter, 7 for both seasons, and 2 have their summer hours in with a little to go for the winter hours. Four family units were not able to get any time done.

So you can see that you have company in whatever category you find yourself. This is typical for the over 25 years we have had the CG. We encourage everyone to plan a schedule to get their time in but life happens. So don’t feel bad, just think about next year and evaluate your situation.

One thing we will try to clarify for next year is that the hours for the winter program generally need to be done before the end of October. We have had an unprecedented number of people wanting to sign up for the winter program in late October or November. This has never happened before so we have had to turn some away until next spring. It is hard to hoe weeds in the mud and there is not too much else to do.

For those winter participants who have some time to put in yet, we have a little more work in the tomatoes and greenhouses that may allow you to finish your time commitment. Keep coming out to get your winter veggies as there are a lot available yet.

Thanks again for your good work on your farm this year. See you in the spring!
