Community Garden Update – Winter 2010

February 17th, 2010

Greetings to all you winter Community Garden members on this beautiful spring day! .It has been good to see some of you from time to time as you have come to get produce. Here are some updates for you:

1.Produce – there is still potatoes, onions, and cabbages in the cooler. We have just moved out most of the winter squash. The December freeze softened all the beets, so we have had none for almost 2 months now. The freeze also killed most of our beautiful over wintering cauliflower, but we are starting to find a few heads, so you may or may not see some in the cooler occasionally. Ask us about picking kale and collards also.

2. Work – Some of you that did not quite finish your winter hours have asked about what you can do. The normal winter weather has not allowed any work to be done, but there are a couple of projects that could be done now when it is dry.

One is to finish taking down the tomato trellises. 2 people need to work together to take the strings down. Then people handy working with wire and pliers can take the wire off of the posts. There are some flower beds that Nancy would like some help in weeding too.

3. 2010 sign up – We will send out the forms earlier this year for those that may be able to help with some of the early weeding of flower beds and maybe the berries by April.

Keep in touch. Enjoy your produce and the sunshine!
