September 2010 Update

September 2nd, 2010

Here we are in September already. We all have been enjoying more produce as new crops have come online. You can check the blackboards in the packing shed for what is available and where it is.

Several have been asking about canning quantities. Let us know what you want and you can either pick that crop or we will have some items, such as tomatoes and pickling cucumbers, picked for you. We have a spreadsheet with the items you asked for on your application. We will go down that list, for tomatoes especially, and call you when we have boxes ready, if you have not already let us know how many you want. Beans are available all the time u-pick. Our new bicolor corn is also coming on now, so let us know what you want.

To: Community Garden family,

We will be around this Labor Day weekend if you want to work Saturday or Monday. Just call ahead as usual, if at all possible.

Now for some health news. You may have noticed that you have not seen Nancy as much lately and that we have had a day or 2 when we were not around this summer. Nancy has been seeing her cardiologist and having tests for the last 4 months to determine the cause of her leg pain when walking and increasingly more upper body pain and shortness of breath. She can sit, do office work, and cook, but not much else. The result of all of this is that she will have 3 bypasses and her aortic valve replaced on Friday, September 10th.

We have appreciated the prayers and offers of help from those who have known about this. Several have been keeping the flower beds maintained that Nancy normally does. She really appreciates how nice they look. We will not have any of you work on that Friday, Sept. 10th, and it will be even more important to call ahead so I can plan your work, since I will be in and out for the several days that she will be hospitalized.

Thanks again for your good work on the farm. I hope you are enjoying your organic veggies.
